Let’s get into it.

In today’s issue:

AI IMAGE

Recraft can generate images with long text

A new AI image generator popped up that was beating the current leaders' Flux and Midjourney. It was a mystery who was behind this code name red_panda. But now a company called Recraft has come out to take the claim of being the top AI image generator.

What you need to know

  • Who made it: Recraft AI launched a new image model, code named "red_panda" but is actually called Recraft V3. It is run by ex-Microsoft / Google / Yandex engineer Anna Dorogush!

  • How it’s better: It has an ELO rating of 1172 (a way of measuring AI performance). This shows it is better than competitors like Midjourney and OpenAI's models. It's known for its speed. It generates images in about 7 seconds, much faster than some competitors. It can even generate vectors which is a standout feature.

  • How to use it: Recraft V3 is now available, with free and paid plans. It is accessible through Recraft's website or via an API.

Key Ideas

Competition is heating up: It's early days, but Recraft AI made a statement. They came out of nowhere to top the leaderboards but time will tell if this will last. But one thing that is for sure is there is more competition than ever in the world of AI.

AI TECH

ChatGPT's Advanced Voice is now on desktop

ChatGPT's Advanced Voice feature is now available on macOS and Windows. It is in both platforms' desktop apps. This feature allows for more natural, real-time conversations.

What you need to know

  • How to use it: Advanced Voice Mode is now in the ChatGPT desktop apps for macOS and Windows. It uses the GPT-4o model's audio features for better conversation.

  • What it does: Users can engage with ChatGPT via voice, like speaking to a human. It has improved voice quality and can pause when you speak.

  • Public Reaction: Across the socials, there is excitement about this update. People like that using AI feels more lifelike — like having a conversation.

Key Idea

▲ Making AI more human-like: We’re now entering an era of conversational AI interactions. Being able to talk to AI is what we imagined Apple’s Siri should have been.

AI GAMING

Oasis game heavily inspired by Minecraft

The world's first real-time AI world model has been launched — by companies Etched and DecartAI. It's called Oasis, it's free to play and you can try it for yourself here.

What you need to know

  • What is it: Oasis is an AI-generated game that looks and plays like Minecraft. The difference is that everything you see is generated by AI in real-time. But be warned — don't expect to find a great playable game, just yet.

  • How it works: The game runs at a resolution of 360p with a frame rate of 20 fps on Nvidia H100 GPUs. They say that future versions will be optimised to support 4K gaming. The goal would be to make the model run faster and serve more users at a lower cost.

  • Gameplay: Players can move, jump, manage inventory, and break blocks. The AI model knows game physics and mechanics. It creates a dynamic gameplay experience where the environment changes in real-time based on player actions.

  • Reactions: Oasis reportedly had over one million users within days of its release. Users can now add custom starting images to create new worlds. This enhances their interaction with the game.

Key Idea

▲ Creating new worlds: Oasis's tech is still a proof of concept. But, it may have uses beyond gaming, like in interactive video content or immersive films. It feels early but you can imagine a time you can immerse yourself in completely uniquely generated worlds in real-time.
